To maintain our restoration planting areas, we will be removing Natal grass (Melinis repens). We really hit it hard this week and made excellent progress as you can see by our massive piles of browned natalgrass.

We are working to restore an area damaged by the installation of the Sabal Trail pipeline in Polk County at the Lake Marion Creek Horseshoe Scrub Tract.  The habitat at the site was scraped and used as a "staging area" for equipment during the installation.

The site is home to the only protected population of the rare plant Dicerandra modesta (blushing scrub balm).  It is also home to many other rare and endemic species.  We planted native plants at the site this past Fall. Winter is an effective time to do Natal grass removal, so we're getting ahead of the 2021 growing season.

Please join us if you can to help restore this important native plant habitat.
